WP5: Prototype Testing and Field Demostration.
This WP will characterise and verify the performance of individual components (mooring cable, polymer spring, dynamic cable and connectors) developed within WP2 & WP3 and the global behaviour of the integral floating system designed in WP4. Three relevant environments have been selected to perform the tests: MARIN basin for global performance under controlled conditions, the Dynamic Marine Component Test facility (DMaC-UNEXE) for large scale components tests and Canary Islands (PLOCAN) for the characterisation of novel materials under real sea water conditions.
WP leader: MARIN.
The objectives are:
- Validate mooring system performance and durability through large scale components testing in UNEXE (physical scale: 5m mooring cables & ̴1/5 polymer spring component).
- Evaluate integral system dynamics and interactions through reduced scale global prototype in MARIN (physical scale: 1/60 – 1/50).
- Validate power cable performance and integrity through extensive physical testing in UNEXE (physical scale: ̴1/4).
- Verify aging, antifouling and anti-bite properties of new materials (samples of epoxy, polyolefins & plastisols) through tests in real sea conditions (PLOCAN).
